North Qld chefs headed for Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat National Finals

An entrée of ocean trout with cucumber jelly, main course of braised lamb and vegetables, and dessert of chocolate fondant pudding is taking two young North Queensland chefs to the national final of the 2015 Nestlé Golden Chef’s Hat Award.

Adam Millard and Lincoln Peagham beat 18 of the region’s best young chefs in the prestigious culinary competition.

The three-course culinary challenge at TAFE North (Cairns) commercial kitchens had them creating a sumptuous three-course meal to impress the judging panel made up of internationally recognised World Association of Chef’s Societies (WACS) judges, food industry editors, Nestlé chefs and members of the Australian Culinary Federation.

Australian Culinary Federation Competition Director Deb Foreman said, “With record entries into the Award this year, the competition was tougher than ever. Adam and Lincoln were up against some talented chefs but they kept their focus, delivering some exceptional dishes.”

Adam and Lincoln have secured themselves an all expenses paid trip to Sydney, during Fine Food Week in September, where they will represent Queensland North. This weekend will see teams from Queensland South compete for a spot in the National Final.

Celebrating 50 years in 2015, Australia’s longest running culinary competition for young chefs will award the national winning team what promises to be a career kick-starting trip to South Africa, for a once in a lifetime food safari experience.
