Winners announced from the HTN & ACF Inter Schools Culinary Challenge

The first heat of the HTN & ACF Inter Schools Culinary Challenge was recently held at TAFE NSW Hamilton Campus, followed by further heats at TAFE NSW Campbelltown Campus and TAFE NSW Ryde Campus.

The culinary competition provided an opportunity for high school students who are studying hospitality to demonstrate their skill and capability.

The competition series of Hospitality students represented 21 local high schools making up 42 students. They were required to prepare and present a Spatchcock with Potato Lyonnaise, Creamed Spinach and Roast Dutch Carrots as demonstrated by local leading Executive Chef’s Kurt Von Buren, Paul Rifkin, John Daly, George Carpinato and Rod Andrews. The key focus of this event was on “technical skill” and the ability to present a dish as shown on the day for our panel of industry judges.

TAFE NSW Campbelltown Campus
1st Place –  James Hankins & Mikayla Johnson – St John Bosco College
2nd Place
– Justin Lee & Joseph Wong – East Hills Boys High School
3rd Place
– Chelsea Gaut – Mount Carmel Catholic College


TAFE NSW Ryde Campus
1st Place
–  Jasmine Ng & Hannah Powell – Meriden High School
2nd Place
– Meryem Suel & Aiesha Fahda – Birrong Girls High School
3rd Place
– Tara Lockwood & Annalise Dell’Aia – Southern Cross Catholic Vocational College

Students walked away with Fraser and Hughes gift vouchers and aprons as well as a Futura recipe book and additional equipment to assist with their careers with thanks to HTN’s sponsors.
